“Hey Aaron! I have a question for you”:

How did you get started doing photography?

I started doing photography for fun when I was 8 years old. When I went away to summer camp for the first time, my Mom gave me a disposable camera to make my own memories with, & the rest is history! I launched my own business in 2016, & transferred colleges to study photography in 2017. Since then, I've been growing immensely in my photo skills & abilities, but also in being a better & wiser human!

What types of customers have you worked with?

I've had great experience working with couples on their wedding day! I've also done a lot of work in the studio, shooting actor/actress headshots, business/resume headshots, individual studio portraits & family portraits, & fashion & editorial images. I also love working outdoors with families & seniors!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated with a bachelors of science degree in photography from Indiana Wesleyan University, but I've been practicing the art of photography since I was 8! I've been trained technically in the field of digital photography, & I have extensive experience working in studio & natural light environments. I also have had lots of training with film processes to better understand the science of light & how to use it well! I did a studio internship with Ten Thousand Villages US, which was incredible. I’ve always had a great respect for the work that TTV does around the world through ethical, fair-trade retail, & I was very blessed to be able to practice photography under the guidance of the creative & kind people working there.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

One project that really stood out to me recently was a portrait session that I did with the Chancellor of Indiana Wesleyan University (my alma mater). During this session I was able to interview him and gain wisdom for living, while at the same time capturing an authentic portrait that communicated his genuine heart & personality. It was a thrilling & humbling experience! The session only lasted an hour, but was a substantial moment in my career.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a photographer?

I would say search around & make SURE that the photographer you hire is truly invested in your life! Some people just care about snagging clients & making money, but the best professionals are the ones who will lean in further & take a genuine interest in you as a person. Also, trust me, the photos will be WAY better if the person taking them really cares about the people they're photographing.

What questions should customers think through before talking to photographers about their project?

I would ask yourself the "why" questions (even though they can get a little deep): Why do you want to be photographed, truly? Why do you care about possessing a photo of yourself or your loved ones? These are the types of questions that will help me understand your heart & be able to deliver the kinds of images you want. Don't know the answers, but want to figure it out? Well, it's one of my favorite things to chat about! I'd love to start a conversation with you!
